Not the Highlight Reel, Michael Douglas Brings His Memoir to Live Talks Los Angeles
The Oscar winner will discuss One Helluva Ride, his new memoir, at Culver City’s Robert Frost Auditorium on October 10.
On October 10 at 3 p.m., Michael Douglas will take the stage at the Robert Frost Auditorium in Culver City for Live Talks Los Angeles, four days after Grand Central Publishing releases his memoir, One Helluva Ride, on October 6. The series bills the memoir as the unfiltered story of his life, told for the first time.
Douglas announced the book in February, written in collaboration with Michael Fleming, the Associated Press reported. “After being asked for many years, I’ve finally decided it’s time to tell my story on my own terms,” he said. “Not the highlight reel, not the version shaped by headlines or box office numbers, but the real one.” His publisher framed the book as a journey from the shadow of his father, Kirk Douglas, to his own stardom.
The pages move through The China Syndrome, Romancing the Stone, Fatal Attraction and Falling Down, and the book nearly missed its date, TheWrap reported, after legal vetting in the United States and England forced last-minute edits and 80 never-before-seen photos were added late. “Life is messy and therefore so are some parts of this book,” Douglas writes. “Much of what you’re about to read, I’ve never told anyone before.”
The résumé needs little introduction. Douglas won Academy Awards for acting in Wall Street and for producing One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, a film his father had long hoped to make and star in himself, and Live Talks counts 50 celebrated years in the entertainment business. The next afternoon, Olivia Harrison and Cameron Crowe take the same stage.
General admission is $30, and $65 includes a signed copy of the book. A virtual edition streams October 17 for $50, with a signed book shipped within the U.S. and five days of video on demand. The auditorium is at 4401 Elenda Street.
