The year was 1985, and the photographer was Ken Regan. On Wednesday, October 28, the Grammy Museum turns his Madonna pictures into an evening in its 200-seat Clive Davis Theater.

The museum’s event page describes a conversation, a performance and a book signing for the photo book Madonna, Into the Groove, with the program starting at 7:30 p.m. It states plainly that “Madonna will not be appearing or participating in this program.”

The Book and the Writer

According to the museum, the book pairs Regan’s photographs, most of them never before published, with text by Tomás Mier. The page describes Mier as a Los Angeles music journalist and digital creator focused on pop and Latin music, and a former Rolling Stone staff writer who contributes to Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, PAPER and Vogue Mexico. His text includes new interviews with producer Nile Rodgers and choreographer Brad Jeffries, and covers her relationship with Sean Penn, the Mondrian session and Live Aid, where Regan shot her at the center of a famous group photo.

Attitude reported that Insight Editions is publishing the book on October 27, and that many of the photographs were taken at Le Mondrian hotel in Los Angeles. The museum says attendees can buy the book at the event and have it signed by Mier.

The Opener

Los Angeles singer-songwriter Niko Rubio performs ahead of her debut album, late night swim, the museum says, following her 2026 breakthrough, Sunday Girl.

Madonna has been in the Velvet orbit this season, from her VMAs after-party with KIKO Milano to this archive of her early years. Two nights earlier, the same room hosts The-Dream talking Love/Hate II.
