On Wednesday, September 30, Bradley Whitford knelt beside the 2,858th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a Television category honor at 6104 Hollywood Boulevard near the Gateway to the Walk of Fame. KTLA’s Dayna Devon emceed, and the new star sits right next to the one belonging to Allison Janney, his former West Wing colleague and his screen wife on Netflix’s The Diplomat.

His West Wing castmates Martin Sheen and Dulé Hill spoke at the ceremony. Whitford opened his own remarks by noting that it was the birthday of his wife, Amy Landecker, and jokingly credited her for “your ongoing efforts to support me in public.” Then he turned to the work. “The best thing about a life spent telling stories is the people you get to tell them with,” he said.

Whitford played White House Deputy Chief of Staff Josh Lyman on NBC’s The West Wing, the role that brought him his first Primetime Emmy, and he later won Emmys for Transparent and The Handmaid’s Tale, where he played Commander Joseph Lawrence. The film side of the résumé runs through Scent of a Woman, Philadelphia, Get Out and The Post.

His turn as Todd Penn, husband of President Grace Penn, on The Diplomat drew an Emmy nomination in July for outstanding guest actor in a drama series. He has been promoted to series regular for the fourth season, which arrives on Netflix this month.

Then comes Broadway, where he made his debut in Aaron Sorkin’s A Few Good Men. He returns to the play as Lt. Col. Nathan Jessep in Lincoln Center Theater’s revival, which opens October 29. Back in Hollywood, his star is already waiting for the evening crowds at 6104 Hollywood Boulevard.
