On Thursday, September 10, Greg Daniels received the 2,856th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, in the Television category, at 6357 Hollywood Boulevard between Ivar Avenue and Cahuenga Boulevard. Conan O’Brien, his friend and writing partner since their Harvard Lampoon days, was there, and so was Steve Carell, the star of The Office.

Daniels credited his parents for his grounding in comedy, then made the case for collaboration. “There’s a cliche that writing is a solitary act, or that all comedians are angry. I have not found that to be the case,” he said. “Writing has brought me together with the most interesting, loony, fun bunch of people in my life.”

He also took aim at artificial intelligence being sold as a way to make a show alone. “That is getting it absolutely backwards,” he said. “The point of making a TV show is the wonderful people that you get to meet.”

The résumé backs him up. Daniels developed The Office for American television, co-created King of the Hill and Parks and Recreation, and created Upload. Earlier he wrote for The Simpsons, Seinfeld and Saturday Night Live. His Emmys include wins for The Simpsons in 1995 and King of the Hill in 1999, plus outstanding comedy series for The Office in 2006 and outstanding writing for a comedy series in 2007.

“Greg Daniels has had an extraordinary impact on television and popular culture through his remarkable creativity, wit, and ability to tell stories that resonate with audiences around the world,” said Ana Martinez, the Walk of Fame’s producer. The star now sits under the boulevard’s neon at 6357 Hollywood Boulevard.
