Thirty Years, One Machete, Alanis Morissette Brings Her Stage Play to YouTube Theater
Alanis Morissette takes Butterfly with a Machete, her musical stage play about fame and trauma, to Inglewood for four November nights.

Alanis Morissette will spend four November nights in Inglewood telling her own story from the stage. Butterfly with a Machete plays YouTube Theater on Thursday, November 5, Friday, November 6, Tuesday, November 10 and Wednesday, November 11, and Consequence reported that she produced, performed and co-wrote the show, which moves through the highs and lows of the past 30 years of her career.
The venue calls it “a confessional and multimedia, multi-disciplinary musical stage play set to her music.” Songs sit beside storytelling and reflections on fame and trauma, tracing a path from Ottawa to the global stage. The Los Angeles run continues the sold-out Las Vegas residency she staged in fall 2025. It is promoted by Live Nation, and the venue says the engagement marks YouTube Theater’s first residency.
The nights now arrive alongside new music. On October 9, Consequence reported that Morissette announced her first holiday album, Good Weather for Immaculate Conception, due November 6 on Epiphany Music and Virgin Music, the same day as her second Inglewood show. The preview track, “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem,” features Brandi Carlile on vocals and Steve Martin on banjo.
The album runs 14 tracks, with originals including “Christmas on the Dancefloor” and “To an Empath at Christmas Time,” and guest turns from Martin Short, Joy Oladokun, Amythyst Kiah and the UK choir Trans Voices. Whether any of it will find its way into the play has not been announced.
It has been a full year for her. Consequence noted that she was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame earlier in 2026, and in late August she turned up unannounced at Olivia Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields festival to sing “Ironic” with her.
The venue lists doors at 7 p.m. and showtime at 8 p.m. for all four nights, with parking lots opening at 5 p.m. Tickets are on sale through Ticketmaster from the venue’s event page. The same stage hosted Issa Rae’s Insecure anniversary night earlier this month.
