Back on the Blocc, Issa Rae Brings Insecure’s Anniversary Tour Home to Inglewood
Issa Rae and showrunner Prentice Penny will close their 13-city Insecure tour at the YouTube Theater on October 8.
On Thursday, October 8, at 8 p.m., Issa Rae and Prentice Penny will bring the Insecure 10th Anniversary Tour to the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, the final stop of a 13-city run, Time Out reported. The ending is a fitting one, since Inglewood was among the places the L.A.-based HBO series called home.
Rae, who created and starred in the show, and Penny, its showrunner, are touring alongside their new rewatch podcast, Blocc Party. The evening promises behind-the-scenes conversations and untold stories, with possible appearances from Yvonne Orji, Jay Ellis and Natasha Rothwell. “Celebrate 10 years of Insecure live, on stage, with creator and star Issa Rae, showrunner Prentice Penny and the cast who brought the groundbreaking series to life,” the venue’s listing reads.
Insecure premiered on HBO on October 9, 2016, created by Rae and Larry Wilmore from her web series Awkward Black Girl. Across five seasons and 44 episodes, it followed Rae as Issa Dee, with Orji as Molly Carter, Ellis as Lawrence Walker and Rothwell as Kelli Prenny, moving through View Park-Windsor Hills, Leimert Park and Inglewood before it ended in December 2021.
The series earned Rae three Emmy nominations for lead actress in a comedy series, and it was nominated for outstanding comedy series in 2020. The Inglewood date falls one day short of the tenth anniversary of its HBO premiere.
Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show is 18 and over. Tickets start at $49.50, and the YouTube Theater also offers premium packages and theater boxes for groups of up to 15.
