Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgård premiered Wicker, their fable about a fisherwoman who orders a husband woven from willow, at the DGA Theater in Los Angeles on Tuesday night, October 20, three days before the film opens in theaters.

The cast walked the carpet together. Deadline’s premiere gallery shows Colman, Skarsgård and Elizabeth Debicki at the DGA Theater with the writer and director team of Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson and producers Tim Headington, Justin Lothrop and Brad Zimmerman. UPI reported that Skarsgård’s brother, Bill Skarsgård, also attended, and Deadline’s gallery pictures the two brothers together.

What Wicker Is About

Wicker is a romantic fantasy comedy set in a small medieval village. Colman plays an ostracized fisherwoman who commissions a husband made of wicker from the local basketmaker, played by Peter Dinklage, and Skarsgård plays the creation, according to UPI. The film is adapted from “The Wicker Husband,” a short story by Ursula Wills-Jones, and Fischer and Wilson wrote the screenplay.

The official synopsis, as published by TheWrap, describes the film as “an audacious comedic fable about sex, marriage and social convention, centering on a wholly original love story.” In that telling, the fisherwoman’s unexpected romance with her husband “sparks jealousy and threatens the village’s social order.” Marli Siu and Nabhaan Rizwan round out the cast TheWrap lists.

The suit itself is the craft story. TheWrap reported that Skarsgård’s “fully practical” Wicker Husband suit was made by Joe Dunckley and Weta Workshop, with cinematographer Lol Crawley, production designer Renátó Cseh and composer Anna Meredith, whose score the outlet called “bold” and “recorder-driven.”

The Look on the Carpet

Skarsgård dressed for the occasion. WWD reported that he wore custom Chopova Lowena, a purple and green pleated plaid skirt held up with a leather belt and hardware hooks, under a long-sleeve black shirt embellished with gemstones. At the center of the shirt sat a still from Wicker of Colman herself, framed in the same black stones.

The look was styled by Harry Lambert, who also works with Harry Styles and Emma Corrin, WWD reported. The outlet noted that Skarsgård had walked the BFI London Film Festival carpet for the film earlier in the month in a gilded gold suit and translucent lace-up Saint Laurent shoes.

From Sundance to Sunset

Wicker has been building toward this week since January. Wikipedia’s entry for the film records its world premiere at the Eccles Theater in Park City during the 2026 Sundance Film Festival on January 24. Black Bear acquired North American rights at the European Film Market in February, and the film closed the Sitges Film Festival on October 18, two days before the Los Angeles premiere.

“It’s bold, entertaining and totally unlike anything else, as its early fans at Sundance have seen,” Benjamin Kramer, Black Bear’s president of U.S. distribution, said in a statement published by TheWrap. “Eleanor and Alex’s creative ambition shines through at every turn.”

The reviews have followed. Wikipedia reports a 92 percent positive score from 39 critics on Rotten Tomatoes and a Metacritic score of 64, which that site labels “generally favorable.” Colman is also one of the film’s producers, according to the same entry.

The premiere lands in a busy film week in Los Angeles. On Friday, the same day Wicker reaches theaters, Pedro Pascal brings Behemoth! to the TCL Chinese Theatre for AFI Fest.

When Wicker Opens in Theaters

Black Bear opens Wicker in a limited theatrical release on Friday, October 23, and expands it nationwide the following week on October 30, TheWrap reported, and Deadline also lists October 23 for the U.S. opening. WWD gave October 30, the date of the wide expansion, so check local listings for the first Los Angeles screens. The film reaches UK cinemas on October 30 and Australia on November 5, according to Wikipedia.
