Pinball Wizards on Hollywood Boulevard, The Who’s Tommy Opens a Three-Week Run at the Pantages
A new production of Pete Townshend’s rock opera plays 24 performances at the Hollywood Pantages from October 27 through November 15.

Pinball Wizard arrives on Hollywood Boulevard in nine days. The Who’s Tommy, a new production of the 1969 rock opera, opens at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre on Tuesday, October 27, and plays 24 performances through Sunday, November 15.
Broadway in Hollywood bills it as a new production with music by “Tony Award-winning composer Pete Townshend” and the “Tony Award-winning original director” Des McAnuff. The story follows young Tommy Walker, who withdraws into his own mind after witnessing his father shoot a rival and later becomes a celebrity through his gift for pinball. The score includes “Pinball Wizard,” “I’m Free,” “See Me, Feel Me” and “Sensation.” BroadwayWorld lists the musical’s 1993 Tony nomination for Best Musical.
The Run
Performances run Tuesday through Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sundays at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., with no Monday shows. That makes Halloween a double, with curtains at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 31. The Sunday, November 15, matinee at 1 p.m. offers ASL interpretation, audio description and closed captioning.
The show runs 1 hour and 40 minutes with no intermission. Broadway in Hollywood recommends it for ages 16 and up, admits no children under 5 and warns of depictions of bullying, substance abuse and scenes of war, along with loud music, strobe and laser lighting, theatrical haze, non-firing prop guns and gunshot sound effects.
The Theater
Tommy moves in right behind The Outsiders, whose Pantages run wraps up today, so the boulevard trades Tulsa greasers for a pinball champion in a little more than a week.
