On Saturday night a neighborhood music school will throw its birthday party on Sunset Boulevard and let the whole city in. Live Nation lists Silverlake Conservatory of Music celebrates 25 years at the Hollywood Palladium on October 17 at 7 p.m., with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Grohl, Vince Staples and Marc Maron on the bill.

A Benefit Without the Dinner Table

Paste reported that the evening is open to the public and takes the place of the school’s usual private benefit dinner. KROQ’s event listing calls it “a very special benefit concert” and promises the Chili Peppers, Grohl, Staples and Maron “and more.” No further names or running order have been published, and the listings do not say what role Maron will play.

Flea announced the date himself. “Come celebrate a quarter century of The Silverlake Conservatory of Music! Yeeeeeeeah!” he wrote, according to Paste, adding that the proceeds all go to the nonprofit school.

The School

Paste reported that Flea and Keith “Tree” Barry founded the conservatory with their friend Peter Weiss in 2001, after arts education cutbacks in Los Angeles. The magazine said it serves more than 1,000 students a week, including a 200-student scholarship program that provides free lessons, instruments, supplies and group classes. The school’s own site carries a banner reading “Bring on the music! Celebrating 25 years of SCM!”

The Room

The Palladium has been busy with rock bills this month, among them Social Distortion’s Born to Kill night and ScHoolboy Q’s Blank Face anniversary. Grohl was already on a Los Angeles benefit stage this month when he and John Mayer headlined Soundstage of Hope.

Practical Details

Saturday, October 17, at 7 p.m. at the Hollywood Palladium, 6215 Sunset Blvd., Hollywood. Tickets went on sale September 25 through Live Nation, and ticket prices were not published on the listing. The school can be reached at 323-665-3363.
