Bungalow No. 5 After Dark, Fairmont Miramar Toasts Marilyn Monroe’s Centennial in Santa Monica
The Fairmont Miramar Hotel and Bungalows will host a Marilyn Monroe Centennial Celebration in its Lobby Lounge on Saturday, October 24, from 6 to 10 p.m.

The Fairmont Miramar Hotel and Bungalows in Santa Monica will celebrate Marilyn Monroe’s centennial on Saturday, October 24, with a Monroe-themed evening in its Lobby Lounge from 6 to 10 p.m.
Guests are invited to come dressed as their favorite Marilyn. The hotel’s event listing promises a live tribute performance by Bri Oglu, a special performance at 8 p.m. and a prize for best costume. The menu leans old Hollywood, with Oysters Rockefeller, Waldorf Salad and Caviar Fries. The bar will pour a Bungalow #5 cocktail, “named for Ms. Monroe’s favorite bungalow, where she was said to retreat from the paparazzi.”
LAmag’s weekend guide picked the night for October 24 and adds live reenactments of Monroe’s most memorable performances to the program.
Why the Miramar Claims Monroe
The hotel ties the evening to Let’s Make It Legal, the 1951 Twentieth Century-Fox comedy it says was “filmed right here at The Miramar.” Directed by Richard Sale, the film cast Monroe as Joyce Mannering, a beauty-contest winner, and its reference entry places the hotel swimming-pool scenes on location at the Miramar.
The property was already old Hollywood by then. Its history runs from an 1889 Victorian mansion to the Miramar Hotel of 1921, with 32 poolside bungalows added in the 1930s. Greta Garbo lived there for more than four years, and Betty Grable performed in the Miramar lounge.
Monroe was born Norma Jeane Mortenson in Los Angeles on June 1, 1926. Her centennial year also brings her portraits to the Richard Avedon exhibition in Beverly Hills.
