Everyone has something that makes them extraordinary. Hidden Stars, subtitled The Magic of You, is about bringing it out.

Unfolding spontaneously in Washington Square Park, the experience centers on people, their stories and the qualities they may not recognize in themselves. The next confirmed appearance is Saturday, October 3, from 3 to 6 p.m.

Through conversations with David Drebin, New Yorkers and visitors explore the space between who they show the world and who they are. Hundreds of people have already stopped to share something of themselves.

“Everyone carries something inside them that deserves to be seen,” said Drebin. “Sometimes all it takes is for someone else to notice it first.”

For most of his career Drebin has worked on the other side of a lens, making cinematic, dreamlike photographs and neon works, with ten books to his name. In the park he leaves the camera out of it. As The Village Voice reported, the sessions are unscripted, some lasting a couple of minutes and some running much longer. Our sister magazine Suite 646 profiled the project last week.

Every encounter offers the possibility of seeing yourself differently. The magic is already in you.
