Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, and Cinespia will spend it among the headstones. The series lists John Carpenter’s *The Thing* for Saturday, October 31, at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, with gates at 5:30 p.m. and the film at 7:15 p.m. It is the last date on the October schedule Time Out LA published for what it calls Cinespia’s 25th season at the cemetery.

The Halloween Party

Cinespia bills the night as a full party. DJ J.ROCC will spin with an unnamed special guest, and the page promises a dance party, a costume contest with prizes, a free photo booth, a candy crawl, spooky surprises and themed cocktails. “Come as you are, or someone you’ve perfectly assimilated,” the listing says.

The 1982 film runs 82 minutes. Cinespia describes a shapeshifting alien that overtakes a research site in Antarctica and a squad of scientists, Kurt Russell among them, trying to fight it off.

The Run Up

The October slate opened with Corpse Bride on October 3 and Carrie on October 10, Time Out reported. Jennifer’s Body plays the night before Halloween, Friday, October 30, and Cinespia marks that one sold out. As of Monday, The Thing was not marked sold out.

Time Out says the crowd arrives with folding chairs, blankets and picnics, that alcohol is allowed, and that Cinespia is selling branded candy boxes with See’s Candies this season. The cemetery is the resting place of Rudolph Valentino and Bugsy Siegel, Time Out noted. It is a busy fall on the grounds, with Geese playing three nights this week and the Día de los Muertos celebration on October 24.
