Busta Rhymes will take the Grammy Museum’s Ray Charles Rooftop Terrace at L.A. Live on Monday, October 5, at 7 p.m. for an evening celebrating Dillagence II, his new album built on previously unreleased productions from his longtime friend and collaborator J Dilla.

Anderson .Paak, a nine-time Grammy winner, moderates a conversation about the album, Busta’s creative process and career, and his enduring creative connection with Dilla. The night closes with a performance by Busta Rhymes, a 12-time Grammy nominee, with Common as special guest.

Dillagence II arrived August 25 as a sequel to the 2007 mixtape Dillagence, which featured Q-Tip, Phonte, Talib Kweli, Raekwon, M.O.P. and Rah Digga. Dilla contributed to six of Busta’s first seven solo albums. Before the release, Busta shared a clip dated March 7 of Dilla’s mother, Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancey, nodding along to an album track at one of the project’s earliest listening sessions.

The archive runs deep. “J Dilla left me with over 300 beats before he passed,” Busta told GQ in 2020, as Complex reported. In February he previewed the record at a listening session in New York with Statik Selektah and DJ Tony Touch.

General check-in opens at 6 p.m., with members admitted half an hour earlier, and a cafe and cash bar serve the rooftop before the conversation begins. Tickets are will-call only with a physical ID, they are non-transferable, and cameras, vinyl and memorabilia are not allowed inside.
